Eddy
Just lately I was reunited with a person that touched my life many years ago.
He brought back memories of a little boy I had taken in because his mom didn't care.
She had left her 3 children with her mom and had disappeared. Her mom came to me and asked if I could help with the children ages 5yrs, 3 yrs, and 1 yr. old. I took all three for a month and then the mom came back, called me and said she wanted her kids, but not Eddy the 3 year old.
I returned the two children and kept Eddy. He was so smart, loving and just a great little boy. He stayed with me a year and one day I got a call from his mom saying that she wanted to visit with him. I was happy about that but when I got there she said.."Can you leave him here for a few hours because my worker is coming and I will get more money if she sees me with the three kids." I remember leaving Eddy that day with this woman, him crying begging me not to leave, but I did. I tried to convince myself that he wasn't mine and that it would work out. At that time in my life I wasn't too close to the Lord and had so many mixed emotions. But I walked away...
It was only a few days later that I got a call from the grandmother saying that her daughter had got her money and left the 3 children with a girl 12 years old and had disappeared again. The kids had been left all weekend alone and now they had been taken into care.
I felt bad and yet I knew they would be better off in care.
It was about 4 years later when I got a call from Eddy's mom. "Ann, I am getting my kids back from care and Eddy has been asking about you, would you like to see him?" I will never forget the day that Eddy came to my door. Big brown eyes stared back at me as he looked up into my face and said "I remember you....do you know who I am?"
My heart was beating so fast as I looked into his little face and said "Yes, I sure do"
After that day, Eddy came to my house almost every weekend, helped me plant a garden, make jam and just visit.
When he reached the teenage years he was having so much trouble with his mom's boyfriend that he called me one day and said that he was leaving town. I wanted him to stay, but knew that he had made up his mind and was leaving. He left, went to Toronto, then France and then New York City. He kept in touch occasionally, but many times I didn't know where he was. Then one day I got a letter from Eddy...reminding me of the times we had had so much fun. I called him up and our relationship started again.
Each week, I would call him or he would call me... I used to call him "My Little Eddy" and he always laughed and reminded me of his age.
I got a phone call one day from his aunt saying that he was in the hospital and did I want to visit him... I didn't know what had happened to him but knew it was serious. I picked her up and we drove to New York City. She told me Eddy had AIDS and was dying. He never had told me of that and always made out that he was fine. My heart was broken.
I remember entering the room and seeing Eddy for the first time in quite a few years. He was now 25 years old.....
He started to cry and I did too. HE DIED A FEW WEEKS LATER..
I put this page on my site because there have been times in my life that I have thought of this pastor who when I mentioned Eddy in hospital he immediately said he would fly down there and visit with him. AND HE DID...
It meant so much to me at that time to know that someone showed real love and went out of their way to do something to help others....
We live in a world where very few people really care about other people. Some have no compassion for anyone except themselves. If you feel that you just can't be bothered or you are just too tired please remember this story. If you are a pastor or leader in your church you do get tired at times and overwhelmed but let us always remember that Jesus did so much for us the very least we can do for Him is love others at no matter what the cost.
Let's always remember what Jesus said..."LOVE NEVER FAILS"
Aids is killing our children and our loved ones....
Please pray for those with AIDS..
Please pray for those in the church that they will open their doors and hearts to those who are infected with AIDS.
Eddy gave his life to Christ just before he died.. What rejoicing in heaven that day... (That is another story that I may share later down the road )
There is a little boy "JOSHUA" who has AIDS 8 years old

Please keep him in prayer..
